It has recently come to our attention that somebody has posted to a website pretending to be Comfort and has been saying inflammatory things about writer Rich Bernatovich and his book, The Sentinels. We won’t link to it, because this person doesn’t deserve more attention for their crime.

This was deeply troubling to us not only because somebody was misrepresenting us in our name, but because we’re actually big fans of Bernatovich and have nothing but the highest respect for his work. We loved The Sentinels and have every book, and recommend it highly to anybody who’s a fan of superhero comics or good comics in general.

The truth is that when we were just starting to release our own comic, Rich was among those who helped us out the most. He was a very good friend to us, and we are thankful for knowing him. That somebody would intentionally lie about their identity and speak badly of him while pretending to be us is infuriating and unacceptable.

We don’t know who did this. If it was a fan of ours trying to promote us, you have not only wounded us but made us look like terrible people and deeply insulted us in the process. If it was somebody trying to make us look bad, we can’t imagine why they would want to do this. We’ve only ever tried to be nice to people and respectful of other creators.

If anyone here should see a post attributed to us that seems petty, inane, and insulting of another creator while awkwardly promoting our book, please [b]let us know![/b] It may be this person again trying to start problems. Identity theft is a horrible thing to live through, even worse online where there are so few ways to defend yourself and bring the truth to light. We sincerely hope this is the last time this will happen.
