Convention Report - Mid-Ohio Con
We’re back from Columbus with another…

-- Convention Report: Mid-Ohio Con! --

Last year’s Mid-Ohio show was a blast, and we’re happy to report that this year was even better. We were drawing commissions the whole weekend, and though our knuckles are swollen, it was worth it! We met some great people, talked about our comic, The Uniques, and generally just got to chat with the folks that came by. We met a lot of people who already knew our work, either from this blog or our deviantART pages or elsewhere, and that was a wonderful surprise! We aren’t used to being sought-after artists, and it was fun to get to play the part for a couple days.

So a quick shout-out to all you guys reading the blog! We send a lot of thoughts out into the internet void, and you never know how much of that’s getting picked up or if you’re just yelling in a closet. Turns out we’ve got more people paying attention to us than we thought, and we want you all to know how deeply appreciative and thankful we are. You’re all great, each and every one. But especially the ones who leave comments - you’re the greatest of all!

Starman by Adam

Golden Age Green Lantern by Comfort

Rogue and Logan, and a ballpoint pen sketch of a female version of Mephisto, all by Adam.

We also got to spend time chatting with our lovely neighbors, Kevin Leen and his lovely wife-- who saved our butts on Sunday when our bottle of juice shattered on the ground. She leapt to action and an admittedly minor crisis was averted. They’re both fun, very nice people, and made the show even better.

We also got to spend a lot of time hanging out with author Bryan JL Glass (writer of one of our most beloved comics, Mice Templar) and his wife Judy - you can call her ‘Missus’ - who together are one of the most fun couples you could hope to meet. We spent hours talking and laughing and telling stories, and just having a fantastic time. The show was worth it if only for the chance to have time with such good friends.

Judy, Bryan, Comfort and Adam... all being crazy, none being bored. We promise.

Mice Templar #2 is out now-- buy it! That is, if you aren’t one of those people who hate good comics and want to kill babies and worship devils and such. If you’re one of those types, we’ll leave you to your zombie comics.

Conan by Comfort and Red Sonja by Adam

A pair of RPG characters a fan created, drawn by Comfort and Adam, respectively.

Fun and Dancin' by Comfort.

Comfort's Emma Frost - the White Queen.

Aang and Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender by Adam... X-23 by Comfort

So it was a lot of fun. We met great people, reconnected with friends of old, and drew our hands off. And hey, we even managed to turn a tidy profit in the process! Not bad for a weekend at the sleepiest li’l Con in the Midwest. We’ll definitely be back again next year, Ohio - count on it!

Headshots! Supergirl by Adam, and Leia and an original heroine/fan Portrait by Comfort

Catwoman by Adam; Dazzler by Comfort

Finally, we leave you with photos of some of the costumes we saw at the show. Hope you had fun with the review, and we'll be back with regular blogging soon(ish). Now, back to work!

-Adam & Comfort

Last one-- a real treat for us, because this costume was based off of a design Adam made for the guy's original character, Mainframe. It's the first time we ever got to see our art in live-action, and it was really cool! Unfortunately, the suit had some technical problems after the first day and will need some re-stitching, but it was still neat.

Freedom by Gaslight

IF my eyes aren't deceiving me Green Ronin has put up two images you did for Worlds of Freedom in their current Super-Vision post.

That was one exhausting post! Wow you guys were very busy. I would love to watch you draw a character from start to finish some time. That is more enjoyable for me than just seeing the finished product. It is cool to watch it unfold on paper and computer and see how the artist achieves the finished artwork.

Thanks for sharing!

PS. The Leia holding the stuffed Ewok really looks like Carrie Fisher!

If you look around they have some page sketches for X-Men (Ultimate?), from thumbnails to finished.

Sweet!! Thanks. That was exactly the sort of thing I like. Well almost. I like to see every step of the process including all the "boring" middle stuff. LOL But this was great. Thanks for the links.

We were really busy, and it's waaay great to be back! And if you want to see more process stuff just go to the Saturday posts for Art School Saturday...or you can come visit us at a con sometime and you can sit behind the table for a bit to watch. And if you can't make it maybe someday we'll do one of those little art videos. Who knows?

Thanks! I attend the West Coast cons more often than Eastern ones, but you never know. A video would be awesome. I've seen a few where artists do time delay captures of their work and then play it back at increased speed. Something like that would be cool, but tutorials on PhotoShop are even better so if you guys ever find some down time (yea right) I would love to see how you do your coloring in PhotoShop.
